Pelham hosts first scholastic chess tournament at middle school
PMS -- Pelham hosted the first Pelham Scholastic Chess Tournament on Nov. 16. This featured kids from Colonial, Hutchinson, Prospect Hill and Siwanoy and other schools.

PMS -- Pelham hosted the first Pelham Scholastic Chess Tournament on Nov. 16. This featured kids from Colonial, Hutchinson, Prospect Hill and Siwanoy and other schools. They all faced off in different divisions.
Chess is a pretty popular sport at Colonial School. Many kids join the chess club.

Before the event, Christian Shiels (5H) said he loves chess and that he has his hopes up to win a prize.
At the end of the tournament, the winners received trophies, and everyone got a shirt.

Chess involves strategy and skill. It's a game that requires hard thinking and success. Chess also has a lot of history. The pieces include pawns, kings, queens, bishops, knights and the castles (rooks).
