Pelham Resident Kate Douglass Qualifies for U.S. Olympic Trials

Douglass, who swims for the Westchester Aquatics Club, set a new American record for 13 year olds in the 50 meter freestyle.

Pelham resident Kate Douglass, 13, recently set a new American swimming record for her age group in the 50 meter freestyle and has qualified to compete in the United States Olympic Trials next year, according to the Westchester Aquatics Club and The Journal News.

Douglass set the mark - 25.80 seconds - during the Speedo Junior National Championships in San Antonio, TX. She will be a freshman at Pelham High School in the fall.

The U.S. Olympic Trials will be in Nebraska in June of next year, and Douglass also qualified in the 200 meter breaststroke.
