Pelham's Work Week Weather: Snow, Cold, Spring

PELHAM, NY — It's an action-packed week! The spring equinox is at 12:15 p.m. EDT on Tuesday. Plus, there's a Hazardous Weather Outlook and Winter Weather Watch for much of the Hudson Valley.

However, meteorologists are really uncertain about what impact the storm that's heading up the East Coast will have on the region, and where.

"This is looking like a challenging forecast, with a sharp cut-off between 'no snow' and '6 inches of snow'," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

On the equinox, the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world, as the Old Farmers Almanac points out.

And then there's the rest of the week to contend with. Bundle up.

The National Weather Service has issued advisories in advance of the nor'easter:

• Winter Storm Watch in effect from March 20, 06:00 PM EDT until March 22, 12:00 AM EDT

Here's the forecast from the NWS for southern Westchester County:

• Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 24. North wind 3 to 8 mph.
• Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. Northeast wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
• Tuesday Night: A slight chance of rain, snow, and sleet before 8pm, then snow and sleet likely. Cloudy, with a low around 27. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Northeast wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
• Wednesday: Snow and sleet, becoming all snow after 11am. Steady temperature around 30. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Blustery, with a north wind 18 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
• Wednesday Night: Snow likely, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Blustery, with a north wind 14 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
• Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 42.
• Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29.
• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 43.
• Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 29.
