Rain, Storms To Affect Weekend Plans: Pelham's Weather

PELHAM, NY — An unsettled weekend is upon us, and it may not bode well for outdoor events. Friday may not be a problem, despite increasing clouds.

"Unfortunately, things go down hill on Saturday," says Hudson Valley Weather. "Things on Sunday don’t look too much better."

And the hour-by-hour weather apps won't meet your needs, Alex Marra and Bill Potter warn.

We know this is upsetting for many people with important plans, but it’s worth sharing. With widespread instability, and no organized widespread area of rain expected… the spotty rain showers are too small and localized to pinpoint their exact timing and location. So anyone using a weather app may find themselves pulling their hair out, seeing the forecast for Saturday at 12pm change 2 or 3 times on Saturday.

Rain may be more widespread in the mid- and northern Hudson Valley than at the southern end.

Here's what the National Weather Service says about the weekend in southern Westchester:

• Friday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 76. East wind around 10 mph.
• Friday Night: Showers likely, mainly after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 61. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
• Saturday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 76. East wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Saturday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 10pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 10pm and 2am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Sunday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. West wind 5 to 9 mph.
• Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65.
