Teachers from Beijing Visit Pelham Memorial High School
Pelham Memorial High School students escorted 25 visiting teachers from the Beijing New Oriental School to classes in December.
From Pelham Public Schools: PMHS students in Yutong “Daisy” He’s Mandarin Chinese Level 1&2 classes escorted 25 visiting teachers from the Beijing New Oriental School into classes on Friday, Dec. 2.
Before sitting in on various high school classes for two periods, the Chinese teachers met with PMHS Principal Jeannine Clark, who answered questions about American school culture and academics.
The Pelham School District has engaged with educators in China to expand cultural opportunities for students. In addition to the teachers’ visit last week, students from PMHS have visited Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang and Hong Kong in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Following their visit, Mrs. Clark said, “The teachers (from Beijing) were very impressed with the caliber of our courses and the seriousness of our students.”
In accordance with the Pelham School District’s five-year Strategic Plan, PMHS began offering Mandarin Chinese Level 1 in 2015. This year, the high school expanded the program to include Level 2.
