The Transatlantic world on the
Hutchinson River
At 1 PM, Professor Laura
Chmielewski of SUNY Purchase explores the influence of the transatlantic world
on the original settlers of the Town of Eastchester, which was founded at St.
Paul’s in 1664. The talk examines the
Atlantic world of the 17th century, and illuminates the cultural and
social influences on the early settlers of Westchester County, helping to
commemorate the 350th anniversary of the town. Professor Chmielewski is co author of the
recently published The Atlantic Experience: Peoples,
Places, Ideas. There will also be tours of the Church tower and the
historic cemetery, one of the nation’s oldest burial grounds.
