Town Hall Meeting To Discuss Proposed Bond

From Pelham Public Schools: The Pelham community is invited to attend a Town Hall meeting at 7:30 pm on Monday, October 30 in the Colonial School gym to discuss the proposed bond referendum for this school year.

Earlier in October, the Board of Education determined that the proposed bond will include construction of a new Hutchinson Elementary School, which was deemed the best option to address the deteriorating condition of the building envelope, meet anticipated capacity needs, and provide ADA accessibility while providing fiscal stewardship of the District’s resources and supporting our robust educational program.

With the Hutchinson decision made, the Board will now focus on determining the needs of the District’s other schools and facilities as it works to settle on the final scope of this year’s bond and develop a strategic facilities plan that will guide capital improvements for years to come.

The October 30 meeting will include a brief presentation of the bond planning process and an overview of the Board’s considerations for the final scope proposal, which is scheduled to be presented in December. Following the presentation, the community is encouraged to share their comments, questions and concerns about the bond.

“As we continue to review the facilities needs across the District, it is imperative that we hear from our parents and community members,” said Board of Education President Madeline Smith. “In the initial phase of this process, we were fortunate to hear some very valuable feedback and we encourage our residents to continue sharing their perspectives and insight as we settle on the final scope of the bond.”

In addition to the meeting at Colonial, the Board is planning similar town halls at Siwanoy, Prospect Hill and the High School/ Middle School campus. These events will be held throughout the month of November and further details will be forthcoming.
