Weather Alert: The Return of 'Patchy Black Ice'

The National Weather Service cautions that some roads could be "treacherous" late tonight and early Tuesday in Pelham.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Southern Westchester County and through much of the Tri-State Area for residents to be on the lookout for “treacherous” roads and sidewalks tonight and Tuesday morning.

Despite the mercury gracing 50 degrees on Monday in some parts of the Hudson Valley, the honeymoon ends overnight.

“Runoff from snowmelt will refreeze tonight and patchy black ice will form as temperatures drop below the freezing mark and into the 20s,” according to the NWS. “Untreated roads and sidewalks will become slick and icy. Motorists and pedestrians should exercise caution tonight as travel may be treacherous in spots.”

The same could happen again this week, as more melting will continue as temps again reach 50 on Wednesday and drop like a stone overnight.

By the weekend, look for a cold dose of reality in the form of a snow/rain mix in Westchester, possibly beginning late Friday and continuing all the way into Sunday morning, the National Weather Service states.
