Yonkers Man Sentenced for Attempted Murder That Left Victim Paralyzed

The defendant and the victim were acquaintances involved in a dispute.

A Yonkers man faces 25 years in state prison for attempted murder that left another man paralyzed.

Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty announced Tuesday that Dimas Pedro, 32, of Lawrence Street, was sentenced for his March 22, 2016, conviction of second-degree attempted murder, a felony.

McCarty said Pedro entered a deli located at 27 Lawrence St. on October 22, 2014.

He was armed with a loaded semi-automatic weapon and pointed the gun at the victim and began shooting a close range.

Pedro continued shooting after the victim fell to the ground, police said.

The victim was shot in the right thigh and in the area of the left collarbone. He was left permanently paralyzed below the waist.

Pedro was arrested by Yonkers police that same day.

He and the victim were acquaintances, but were involved in a prior dispute.

Besides prison, Pedro was sentenced to five years of post-release supervision.
