• Hiker Suffers Allergic Reaction on New York Mountain After Eating Trail Mix Containing Tree Nuts (unofficialnetworks.com) — Local volunteers from the Pine Hill Fire Department helped coordinate a response after a hiker on nearby Wittenberg Mountain suffered an allergic reaction to tree nuts in their trail mix. Forest rangers and Shandaken EMS reached the hiker, whose symptoms were already easing, and escorted them safely out. The incident underscores how critical it is for anyone with food allergies to double-check trail snack ingredients before heading into the Catskills.
