5th Grade Students Learn Financial Literacy
High School DECA Students Teach Financial Literacy to Middle School Students in Plainview
Approximately 50 DECA Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District’s John F. Kennedy High School students, also known as High School Heroes (HSH), recently taught Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School and H.B. Mattlin Middle School fifth grade students valuable lessons in personal finance during their Financial Literacy Day. HSH students spent the day covering topics that included responsible ways for saving and spending money, making smart consumer decisions and tools for budgeting.
The HSH students taught lessons, disguised as games, to teach each of the fifth grade classes important life lessons for financial success. The games consisted of two different challenges; one for keeping track of personal finances and the other required students to setup a mock business and maintain its finances.
