Bethpage Students Add 'Published Author' To Their Academic Achievements
Local students are earning recognition for their contributions to published academic research spanning multiple fields.
BETHPAGE, NY — Three Bethpage students are adding a rare achievement to their academic resumes: "published author."
Juniors Aryaan Khalfan and Matthew Tusa co-authored an academic research paper on using machine vision to translate American Sign Language, which was published in an academic journal.
The paper, titled "The Translation of American Sign Language (ASL) with the Application of Machine Vision," explores the intersection of accessibility and communication technology, examining how computer vision systems can be used to recognize and interpret ASL. It was published on the Social Science Research Network, which is an online database used to share early-stage research before they are published in peer-reviewed journals.

Junior Ritvik Saha also has a paper published on arXiv, a similar preprint server widely used in mathematics and the sciences. His paper, "A Central Limit Theorem for the Signatures of 2-Bridge Knots," investigates a complex topic in mathematical knot theory.
