JFK High School Announces Class of 2015 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Check out their academic achievements and where these students will go to school in the fall.

The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District announced this year’s class Valedictorian and Salutatorian of John F. Kennedy High School on Monday.

Tyler Fenton and Evan Rinder were named the Class of 2015 Valedictorian and Salutatorian, respectively.

“Throughout the past four years, both Evan and Tyler have achieved immense success inside and outside the classroom and have served as excellent role models for their peers,” said Dr. Lorna Lewis, Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District Superintendent of Schools, in a press release.

Fenton will major in economics and finance at Duke University in the fall and Rinder plans to study engineering at the University of Michigan.

Both students have exemplary academic achievements.

Fenton was named a National Merit Finalist and conducted research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he examined if blueberries could have a positive outcome when treating breast cancer. He also took 10 Ap classes and a variety of college-level courses.

Outside of the classroom, Fenton is the treasurer of the DECA club, a business competition team, and has placed in multiple DECA competitions. He is the Vice President of the Peer Mentor Program, a member of a club travel soccer team and is a part of the National, Science, Business and Spanish Honor Societies. Fenton also founded the Ride 4 the Ribbon fundraiser, which donates all proceeds to the Conquer Cancer Foundation. Through this fundraiser, he has helped raise over $18,000 to date.

Rinder was recently named a National Merit Scholarship finalist, and received school, state and national honors in math, social studies, science, English, world languages and music. He took challenging courses including BC Calculus, Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish and AP Physics C.

Outside of the classroom, Rinder was on the executive board for the National and Science Honor Societies and volunteers as a “Book Buddy” at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library to inspire elementary school students to read.
