Parkway Elementary School Remembers Sept. 11

Students and faculty alike paid tribute as well as veterans, police officers, firefighters and officials.

Plainview’s Parkway Elementary School District held its annual Sept. 11 ceremony on Wednesday.

Students and faculty alike paid tribute as well as veterans, police officers, firefighters and officials, including Leg. Judy Jacobs, D-Woodbury, and Assemb. Charles Lavine, D-Glen Cove. Also in attendance was Chris Levi, a Sept. 11 first responder who was injured during his tour of duty.

At the ceremony each child held an American flag, which they planted in the ground at the end of the program. The children also sang songs, with some using sign language.

“This is an event I just never miss,“ Jacobs said. “ It is so wonderful to honor our veterans, applaud them, to honor our firemen and police officers and have a special few minutes to honor Plainview’s own Chris Levi, arriving for the first time without a cane, who literally gave so much as he fought for our country.”
