Pasadena Students Return to the Garden
Elementary Schoolers Gather their Summer Crops, Donate to the Community
The students at Pasadena Elementary School are continuing their long-running, collaborative summer gardening tradition this year.
Each week, Pasadena third graders return to the school garden to harvest vegetables that were planted in the spring by the school’s departing fourth grade garden club members. This educational activity gives the older students the opportunity to learn about a variety of vegetable seeds and how to nurture them in their early stages of germination. Then, their younger peers have the chance to see the results and learn about the variety of vegetables planted that year.
This year, the student-led effort sprouted an amazing harvest of tomatoes, including the cherry, beefsteak, and plum variety, as well as a variety of squash, lettuce, peppers, eggplants, and beans. Finally, the collected vegetables are put out on a vegetable stand open to all in the community.
