Plainview Firm Picked for Revitalization

Huntington Town Board chooses Renaissance to work on plan.

A Plainview firm has been chosen to work with the Town of Huntington on revitalizing Huntington Station.

Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone and members of the Town Council said Wednesday that they have selected Renaissance Downtowns LLC as the master developer to design and implement an action plan.

The Town Board approved the firm at its meeting Tuesday night on a 4-1 vote, with Mark Mayoka casting the only vote against it.

Renaissance was chosen, the town said, based on an analysis of responses to a Request for Qualifications issued in April.

The resolution naming Renaissance as the master developer identified the company as “a leader in the holistic and comprehensive redevelopment of suburban downtowns that is uniquely qualified to provide the Town…with a partner for a redevelopment effort to stimulate significant job growth, additional tax revenue and economic development opportunities for years to come.”

The town hopes the master developer will bring in private sector expertise to help stimulate Huntington Station’s revitalization and help “structure the strategic alliances or partnerships that will be needed to achieve the next level of revitalization.”

Renaissance will work with the Town, the Town’s Economic Development Corporation and Community Development Agency and the community to develop a Phase II Action Plan that will complement, strengthen and build upon those redevelopments accomplished to date.

The town said Renaissance has been designated as master developer in four municipalities throughout the Northeast:  Nashua, N.H., Bristol, Conn., Waterbury, Conn. and the Village of Hempstead. Renaissance’s president and founder, Donald Monti, has also been involved with Glen Isle, the mixed-use development in Glen Cove, where he is managing partner for the development team.
