Plainview-Old Bethpage Goes Orange for Unity

Schools in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District Celebrate Unity Day

Plainview, N.Y.—Students and staff across the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District (POBCSD) sported the color orange and held various activities Districtwide in honor of “Unity Day”—a day to raise awareness for students who have been bullied and to promote solidarity amongst students. The District’s individual schools celebrated Unity Day in their own special way, spreading orange throughout the Plainview-Old Bethpage community.

“No child should ever experience bullying,” said Dr. Lorna Lewis, Superintendent of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District. “This day reminds students about the importance of realizing the responsibility that both students and staff share to keep each other safe and end bullying.”

Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School created “Unity Chains” out of orange construction paper to drape across hallways as a symbol of togetherness, showing that they are all linked together. At Old Bethpage Elementary School, students educated their peers on what bullying is, and how to stand up to it by being an “Upstander,” through posters displayed throughout the building. Stratford Road Elementary School created their very own “Kindness Tree,” a beautiful large paper tree that stands tall in the hallway, with each leaf containing kind words of encouragement for fellow classmates.
