Plainview Pool Needs A New Liner

Replacement won't delay opening of popular town park facility, scheduled for June 25.

The Olympic-sized pool at the is in need of a new liner.

The agreed this week to request bids for the item, which serves to protect the pool's surface and prevent water from leaking through the pool and into the ground. The old liner is in need of replacement due to age and normal wear and tear, said Phyllis Barry, a spokeswoman for the town of Oyster Bay.

“When your home pool needs maintenance you take care of it,” Barry said.

The current liner was installed in 2002.  Bids for the new liner will go out at the end of January. A bid will be awarded in February or March, Barry said. Quality pool liners are made of synthetic vinyl, an elastic material that prevents water from seeping through the pool. They prevent corrosion and algae growth; intallation requires a snug, professional fit.

The replacement of the pool liner will be completed in the off season and will not delay the opening of the pool this summer, Barry said.
