Plainview Pothole Patrol: Help for Residents

Patch readers let us know where the potholes are; we found out what to do about it.

For Patch reader , the trouble spot was Gainsville Drive towards Dartmouth.

Regular Patch contributoralerted us to the perpetual mess on Old Bethpage Road.

And, for Patch reader the entire length of Pasadena Drive was a trouble spot stretching northward from Old Country Road.

Patch looked down into the dark heart ofand has learned what residents can do about them. It's a simple process, but it requires residents to alert the town.

It's the 24-hour hotline for the town Highway Department. They also handle problems such as downed street signs, large puddles and broken curbs.

Unless you live on a state road, like Old Country Road, you probably live on a road maintained by the

Town spokeswoman Phyllis Barry says crews are already responding to reported potholes in the area. Call them and the town will put you on the short list.

“We get a crew out within 24 hours,” Barry said. “Depending on what is needed, we either repair the pothole immediately or we get what’s called a ‘hot box.’”

A hot box keeps asphalt warm. When applied, the repairs last longer.

Barry says that pothole reports have been down in the town this year, due to the mild weather. Last year's hard winter caused a wider span of potholes and water main breaks, local officials said.

There also no specific pothole season in Oyster Bay: “We fill in potholes immediately, year-round regardless of season,” Barry said.
