Plainview Water District Reminds Community to Clear Winter Fire Hydrant Hazards

Plainview Water District Board of Commissioners ask residents to be mindful of fire hydrants as the winter season arrives

Plainview, N.Y. (December 3, 2015) – The Plainview Water District Board of Commissioners Joel R. Kessler, Andrew N. Bader and Marc B. Laykind ask residents to be mindful of fire hydrants on their properties as the winter season arrives to ensure volunteer firefighters can do their jobs in inclement weather without delays.

“We want to remind residents it is extremely important our community’s volunteer firefighters are able to access hydrants without any delay during an emergency,” said Commissioner Andrew Bader. “With an unusually warm fall, snow may not be on our minds, but the district asks our residents to keep fire hydrants easy to access when the bad weather arrives.”

The Plainview Water District also asks the Plainview-Old Bethpage community to lend a hand to elderly or disabled neighbors, friends or family members if they are unable to clear hydrants on their own to ensure general public safety.

“We invite everyone to help keep our community safe by overseeing our hydrants,” adds Commissioner Joel R. Kessler. “In addition to keeping hydrants clear of snow, residents are also reminded to not place garbage cans or park their vehicles around hydrants at any time during the year.”
