UPDATE: Small-Plane Crashes Onto LIRR Tracks, Kills 1
LIRR service is suspended between Hicksville and Farmingdale.

A small plane crashed onto railroad tracks in Bethpage Sunday morning, killing one of the two people on board and suspending Long Island Rail Road service on part of the Ronkonkoma branch.
A 54-year-old man survived the crash and was taken to the hospital, according to ABC News, but the pilot was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the FAA, the Hawker Beechcraft BE35 crashed just before 8 a.m. The aircraft was headed to Republic Airport in Farmingdale when the accident occurred at the crossing on South Oyster Bay Road. The road will remain closed in both directions from Hazel Street north to Nichols Court for repairs.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
LIRR service has been restored in both directions between Hicksville and Farmingdale on the Ronkonkoma branch. Service remained suspended for most of Sunday due to the crash.
