“The new schedule for the middle schools will reduce conflicts with music, clubs, athletics and remedial programs and assure equity of opportunities across the two schools,” said Dr. Lorna Lewis, superintendent of Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District, in a press release. “New start times will also allow those students participating in religious education after school to better balance both commitments.”
The MMS schedule added a tenth period to reduce co-curricular conflict and to mirror POBMS’ zero period. This will create additional music rehearsals and will reduce conflicts with remedial programs. This schedule presented an extended day for the MMS students, the district says.
