POB ‘Pink Out’ Raises $7,000 for Cancer Charities

POBJFKHS Holds Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Football Game Benefitting Stacy's Warriors

Plainview, N.Y. —The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District (POBCSD) recently welcomed a huge crowd of fans and community members to raise funds for a close-to-home charity in its annual Coaches vs. Cancer football game at John F. Kennedy High School. Over the course of the week, John F. Kennedy High School DECA students collected community donations for cancer research.

“Our students never fail to impress me with their fundraising efforts each year for this important cause,” said Dr. Lorna Lewis, Superintendent of Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District. “It is abundantly clear how passionate our students and staff are about the mission to fight breast cancer.”

This year, Plainview-Old Bethpage DECA students Dani Mintz, Nikki Mastorides and Amanda Ortsman organized the BElieve THEre is HOPE campaign to raise awareness for Stacy’s Warriors—a local non-profit organization founded by Stacy Brennan in 2007 in response to her diagnosis and ongoing fight against breast cancer.

To kick off the week, students participated in a “Pink Out” where they wore pink for awareness. On Tuesday, DECA advisor Ms. DeLucca along with several students held a pink bagel sale with bagels donated from Bagel Boss in Hicksville. On Wednesday, there was a fundraiser held at the Plainview Diner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. where 10% of purchases were donated to Stacy’s Warriors. “Throwback Thursday” asked students to wear old Coaches vs. Cancer t-shirts. The week concluded with this year’s Coaches vs. Cancer football game.

During the evening’s football game, fans gathered to honor Stacy Brennan and presented her with a check from the money they had raised throughout the week. The students raised a total of $7,000 to benefit Stacy’s Warriors and a variety of other cancer research and awareness organizations including Sloan Kettering and Experience Camps. The funds will also go towards scholarships for Plainview-Old Bethpage seniors who have been impacted by cancer.
