POBJFKHS Named a ‘W!se’ Blue Star School

Coveted Accolade is Given to Schools with Superior Student Financial Literacy

John F. Kennedy High School in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District has been named a W!se Blue Star School for the 2021-2022 school year. This coveted award is given to schools whose student body has demonstrated high levels of financial literacy.

To earn the award, schools must achieve an 80 percent passing rate on W!se’s Financial Literacy Certification Test and have either a majority of students in a given grade level receive personal finance instruction or a minimum 10 percent of school enrollment taking the Certification Test. Working in Support of Education, or W!se, is a New York-based nonprofit dedicated to increasing financial literacy and college and career readiness for students.

“Financial literacy is a crucial tool that too few students attain before entering the wider world after graduation,” said POBJFKHS Principal James Murray. “We are proud of not only this recognition, but the fact that it means our students are among the best prepared to handle their own finances as they enter adulthood.”
