Police: New Cassel Resident Pushes Burglar Down the Stairs, Locks Him in Basement

The burglar, who was arrested Monday, was found to have committed seven additional burglaries in June, police said.

A New Cassel man, who is believed to have committed several local burglaries, was arrested after he broke into a home and the residents locked him in the basement on Monday night, police said.

According to authorities, Carlos Morinville, 22, entered a Sixth Street home through a window, proceeded to the basement and turned the lights on at 10:14 p.m.

A 65-year-old female resident realized there was a burglar in the house when she saw the light on, which caused Morinville to flee back up the basement stairs, but was shoved back down by a 73-year-old male resident, police said.
