UPDATE: Power Outages Strike Plainview
LIPA expects most service will be restored by 8 p.m. Friday; fast-moving storm causes at least five separate outages in Plainview.
A fast-moving electrical storm crossed Plainview this afternoon and left about 400 customers in Plainview without power, LIPA reported.
The storm caused wide-spread but scattered power outages across Long Island.
The Plainview outages appear to have spread across five neighborhoods effecting about 400 customers, according to LIPA's Storm Center map. The largest area affected - about 250 customers total - is the portion of town south of Old Country Road between the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway and South Oyster Bay Road.

Shortly after 6 p.m., LIPA estimated that power will be restored to the majority of Plainview customers by 8 p.m. Friday evening.
The majority of Plainview customers were not affected.

LIPA reported that it has crews en route to the areas impacted by the storm.
The system of thunder storms was predicted to roll across Long Island Friday. Additional storms are possible tonight. The storms will result in a break in this week's heat wave.
The power outages were spread across Long Island. In fact, racing at Belmont Park in Elmont had to be cancelled this afternoon when power was lost to the race track.
