Question of the Day: Columbus?
Yesterday honored a man many think brought genocide to the New World.
Monday was Columbus Day, a holiday still widely celebrated throughout the United States. There was a big parade along New York's 5th Avenue.
But some communities take a pass on the celebration. Some believe Italian-born explorer Christopher Columbus and his followers brought genocide to the New World in the form of warfare and disease.
Is it time to do away with honoring Columbus as a catch-all way to honor the proud heritage of Italian-Americans?

Wouldn't a day honoring Guglielmo Marconi, the father of long-distance radio transmission, be more fitting, especially in New York, the media capital of the world?
Or should the day honor "The Little Flower," Fiorello H. LaGuardia, an Italian-American urban visionary and populist mayor of New York City?
