Today's 5: Chamber Hosts Candidates Debate
Session is at 8 a.m. and open to public. Also: donations still needed for annual benefit for Plainview Library.
The Plainview-Old Bethpage is sponsoring a candidates' debate Wednesday at the Marriott Residence Inn in Plainview. At least nine local and regional candidates have committed to the event, which is open to the public.

1. The Chamber's takes place beginning at 8 am Wednesday at the on Gephard Road, off Old Country Road around the corner from the Hess Station near the Plainview firehouse. The event is open to the public.
2. It's been a newsy week. We told you what caused on Old Country Road Tuesday. We've written about a in the Plainview area on Friday. and covered the in depth. Today we'll have coverage of the Candidate's debate and the attempted bank robbery at a Plainview Chase branch.

3. The Friends of the Library are Wednesday and Thursday and are seeking donations of books, children’s literature, CD’s and DVD’s. No magazines or textbooks. Donations may be dropped off at the lobby in bags marked for 'The Friends.' The sale itself is Friday, Oct. 21,from 4-7 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, 1-4 p.m. at the library.
4. While you're donating books and such, the , is offering two free showings today of "The Conspirator." The film is being shown at 3 and 7:30 p.m. POB residents with photo IDs admitted first; others as space permits. Rated PG.
5. It's political season: Our blogger, Rafe Lieber's blog on what's wrong with the political system and says it's the lack of "Up or Down" votes. What do you think?
