Bader said the new system is environmentally friendly, will improve customer service and will help keep rates low.

The radio read meters have transmitters placed on the registers, which allows Plainview Water District employees to drive by homes and properties with a receiver and record the meter reading. This eliminates the need for employees to walk from door to door to obtain information.

“The new meters will benefit customers by reducing estimated bills, eliminating the need for customer readings due to access issues and minimizing the need to access customer properties,” added Bader.

As a result of the installation of the upgraded system, the Plainview Water District will adjust the billing periods for all its consumers, creating an efficient system for the District and its residents.

As in previous years, consumers will continue to be billed on a quarterly basis.  However, residents will now be billed quarterly aligned with the calendar year.  Meters will be now be read and billed at the end of March, June, September and December of each year.

The District advises residents that every water meter will be read at the end of December 2012 to end the yearly billing cycle and will be billed based on that specific reading.  As a result, the consumer’s the water bill may vary and will be based on when the consumer’s previous reading was last read.
