LI Woman Responds To Suit Over 'Derogatory' Post To Private FB Group

Kevin McKenna claims his reputation was damaged by the comments on Plainview Moms.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly connected Kevin McKenna to Josh Lafazan's congressional campaign. McKenna is not affiliated with the campaign.

PLAINVIEW, NY — A woman who runs a private Facebook group has been served with a lawsuit for defamation of character.

Kevin McKenna is suing Lisa Kerman, who oversees the Plainview Moms site, court documents he provided to Patch indicate. McKenna claims in the suit that Kerman damaged his reputation with false statements about him last month.

He posted a video on the Facebook page Nassau County NY after someone shared the post from the private online group.

"The person who wrote the post used the words 'minors,' 'kids,' 'stalking,' and 'scary' to make me appear like a predator," McKenna said. "This post was regarding me asking questions and having a normal conversation with volunteers for our congressional candidate Josh Lafazan."

He addressed Kerman directly in the video.

"You allowed a post to be published which listed my full name and is both derogatory and libelous," McKenna said.

Kerman's attorneys at Rottenberg Lipman Rich, P.C., told Patch she is filing a counterclaim against McKenna. The countersuit, obtained by Patch and received by the clerk's office Thursday, denied the accusations.

The countersuit said the assertion that a post published on her page was both "'derogatory and libelous'" had "no basis in law," the countersuit said.

Furthermore, the countersuit called McKenna's assertions that a post was defamatory and libelous "on its face, a frivolous and vexatious misstatement of the facts."
