Abinanti's Dobbs Ferry Parking Permit Bill Signed into Law

Assemblyman Tom Abinanti (D-Greenburgh/Mt. Pleasant) today announced that his legislation authorizing the Village of Dobbs Ferry to create a residential permit parking system has been signed into law by the Governor (A.7436, Chapter 329).

“This is about decreasing congestion, reducing pollution and increasing the quality of life for residents of Dobbs Ferry,” said Abinanti. “The new law will help Dobbs Ferry residents find parking and help make the village an even more attractive place for businesses to set up shop.”

The village requested the authority to regulate on-street parking to provide parking relief for Dobbs Ferry residents who – due to their proximity to the train -- have difficulty finding parking near their homes.

The new law provides that Dobbs Ferry may establish the parking permit pilot program, which would expire on January 1, 2018, by local law or ordinance. The area of the village that is covered includes Oak Street, Elm Street and Chestnut Street from Broadway to Main Street, as well as sections of Walnut Street, Hatch Terrace, Palisade Street, Riverside Place and Draper Lane.

Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D-Yonkers) sponsored the bill in the Senate. The bill was signed on September 26, 2015 and goes into effect 60 days after becoming law.

“This is a prime example of different levels of government working together for the betterment of our communities,” said Abinanti. “I thank Senator Stewart-Cousins and village officials for their efforts to give Dobbs Ferry this ability and make the village an even better place to live.”
