August: Always A Delicious Good Time

Pleasantville Farmers Market is open Saturday, 8:30am - 1:00pm

August is here with summer squash, eggplants, carrots, beans, beets, new potatoes, peppers, kale, arugula, head lettuces, and fresh herbs. Leeks, corn, fresh garlic, tomatoes and orchard fruits have joined the party too. And don't let the summer slide by without a few great moments at the grill using Market grass-fed beef, chicken, or Pura Vida's many seafood choices. Truly in August the Pleasantville Farmers Market is a delicious, good time!

Buy Lots of Food in August

Farmers have fantastic, abundant harvests in August, so they ought to be riding home with empty trucks, right? Well, so many non-farmers head out on well-deserved August vacations that shopper volume can lessen. In August, on the weeks you are in town, make an extra effort to shop at the Market. Your farmers will notice the support.

Phelps Health Tip:

Classic Advice: Goats Milk

Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: "Goats milk is a good source of protein. When comparing it to regular cows milk shoppers should note that goats milk contains 13% more calcium, 25% more vitamin B6, 47% more vitamin A, and 134% more potassium. Also, goats milk contains less sugar (lactose)."

Need Help Carrying That?

This month places us into the optimal growing season for so many vegetables: summer squash, peas, greens, eggplants, peppers, and more. Loading up on produce can mean loading up on plastic bags. If you want fewer plastic bags in your kitchen and lifestyle, the Market has convenient, sturdy tote bags, made from 100% recycled plastic. And while they are pretty, they aren't a pretty penny: one bag costs $3 and two cost $5. Stop by the Manager's Tent and have one of our interns assist you.

Using SNAP At The Market

The Pleasantville Farmers Market welcomes shoppers using SNAP EBT. To use SNAP benefits begin at the Manager's Tent, located at the north end of the marketplace. A Market Manager will help you to redeem your benefits as tokens. And due to a generous grant from Market Sponsor The Pleasantville Lions Club, you'll receive 40% more value as "Bonus Bucks", enhancing your ability to purchase nutritious, farm fresh foods for you and your family.
