August: Please Buy Lots Of Food!
Pleasantville Farmers Market is open Saturday, 8:30am – 1:00pm

August is here with an especially abundant, diverse harvest. Even though farmers have fantastic items this month, and ought to be riding home with empty trucks, sometimes so many non-farmers head out on well-deserved August vacations that shopper volume can lessen. On Sunday August 4, National Farmers Market Week begins. Given that theme, and the August harvest, on the weeks you're in town please pledge to buy lots of food in August directly from regional farmers and from food artisans that source ingredients from them. Your farmers will notice the support. And you'll ensure you don't let summer slide by without meals to remember once fall settles in.
This week shoppers will also find a Nutrition Bits and Bites event “World Breastfeeding Week” with nutritionist Marina Stopler MS, RD, IBCLC, of Lehman College and Robin Lynch of the NY Milk Bank (8:30am -12:30pm), a Market Sprouts Kids Event with Carolyn Ramsey of the Pleasantville Garden Club celebrating monarch butterflies (9:30-11:00) and the Music Series has a performance by singer/songwriter Joe Tobin from The Acoustic Medicine Show (10:00-12:00). See you at the Market!
PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR REUSABLE BAGS
Find out what's happening in Pleasantville-Briarcliff Manorfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
Last winter the Village of Pleasantville passed a Pleasantville Carryout Bag Ordinance which encourages the use of reusable shopping bags in Village businesses. As of August 1 new, single use, handled polyethylene plastic bags are no longer available at Village businesses, including the Market. Some vendors will continue to have paper shopping bags available for a fee of 50 cents, and note that "roll" bags remain unaffected at our produce stands.
While the Village's Pleasantville Carryout Bag Ordinance is new, the steadfast use of reusable bags at the Pleasantville Farmers Market by shoppers is not. If you haven't adopted use of reusable bags please do so to help us collectively effect change - reducing pollution, protecting wildlife, reducing use of trees for paper bags and lessening the prevalence of plastic particles in our food chain.

Have Any Extra Reusable Bags To Donate?
At the Managers Tent there's a "Bag Exchange" bin where shoppers can donate clean, reusable bags they're no longer using so other shoppers can pick one up for FREE. If you have any in your car you're not interested in keeping please bring them to donate Saturday!
