BHS Announces University of Waterloo Avogadro Exam Winners

This annual exam has been given as a challenge to high school chemistry students worldwide since 1971.

Six Briarcliff High School Students have been recognized by the University of Waterloo for excellence in chemistry based on their performance on the international Avogadro exam.

Sophomores (l-r; top-bottom) Mathena Chan, Ari Mirsky, Jolie Wasserman, Jack Sendek, Aman Choudhri, and Vasu Gupta scored in the top five percent of over 4000 students taking the Avogadro chemistry exam in the U.S. and Canada. Each student will receive an Elemental Tile for Outstanding Achievement.

This annual exam, created in 1971 by the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, has been given annually as a challenge to high school chemistry students worldwide.

"The exam rewards insightful and out-of-the box thinking, which these six students effectively demonstrate," commented high school chemistry teacher Dr. Robert Saar.

The students will continue their excellent work in science next year as they are enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) science courses starting in the Fall.
