This week, Briarcliff High School students and staff celebrated by wearing red to show their support for National Red Ribbon Week, which is taking place across America.
Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation. Each year, schools across the U.S. show their commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle by wearing or displaying red.

On Wednesday morning, students and staff donned red clothing and stopped by the Red Ribbon Week table at the front of the school, which was hosted by SADD club members. Members of the Students Against Destructive Decisions club had set up a table with various handouts and activities.
They handed out red ribbon stickers, educational fact sheets on marijuana and vaping and laminated alcohol poisoning information cards. There were also Red Ribbon Week-themed crossword puzzles and word searches.

Club members asked students to sign pledge cards pledging to be drug-free.
“There was also a QR code to scan for our quiz about effects of marijuana, based on information from a drug fact sheet that was on the table,” said SADD club advisor Meredith Ohmes.
“The first teacher and student to submit the correct answer to the quiz questions will each be gifted a Starbucks gift card,” she said.
Congratulations to the winners: Ninth grader Mia Willey and teacher Nanci DiNome.
