To showcase their knowledge, they put together wardrobes and created dazzling fashion shows in class, during which they described what they were wearing and shared information about their outfits.
Their shopping unit began with a virtual visit to Spain’s most famous department store: the Corte Inglés.

“Students had the opportunity to explore different clothing departments at the store,” Ms. Foster said. “They went shopping for specific items and added them to their shopping carts. They learned to describe articles of clothing with colors and patterns, as well as stating the cost of each item. They even did the exchange from Euros to dollars.”
As the culmination of the unit, students worked in small groups to come up with a new line of clothing to launch, as well as a store name in Spanish.
The class presented their new clothing line at the fashion show.
“They picked their own clothes for the fashion show,” Ms. Foster said. “They were supposed to wear clothes that they normally would not wear. I also encouraged them to accessorize.”
Students wrote scripts that identified what they were wearing and the cost of the item, as well as colors and patterns.
“I wanted the students to use Spanish in a realistic situation, such as shopping for clothes,” Ms. Foster said. “They have been working hard on agreement between articles, nouns and colors, especially with the masculine and feminine form.”
Students videotaped each other “walking the runway,” while one of their group members read from a script to describe the items and use expressions, such as ¡que bonito! or how pretty.
“They did a fantastic job!” Ms. Foster said.
