Body Found in Tarrytown May Be Hawthorne Bridge Jumper

An autopsy today is expected to confirm the body is Scott Uzzo of Hawthorne.

State police are working to identify a body that was found washed ashore Wednesday behind the  estate in Tarrytown.

According to MTA spokesperson Marjorie Anders, a track inspector found the body around 12:15 p.m., about one mile north of the Irvington train station. The recovery of the body “did not affect trains,” she said.

Anders said, "This is not our investigation,” pointing to the state police for answers.

State Police Inspector Noel Nelson, stationed in Tarrytown, said the scene was "all cleared" as of 3:30 p.m. but officials still have to "examine a few factors" to make an official identification.

Anders said, “They have their work cut out for them; they've got to identify the body and contact the family. I don't envy them this job—it's just horrible.”

There is speculation that this may be the , 24, who jumped from the Tappan Zee Bridge on December 28. After the initial search was called off in January, State Police Investigator Joseph Becerra, based in Hawthorne, said "the river eventually does give up the body."

Scott was a Hawthorne resident.

"There haven't been any other jumpers," said Becerra today, "and those who have jumped we've recovered." Though he and Nelson were fairly certain it was Uzzo, "we are still trying to make a positive identification on this individual," Becerra said.

At 5 p.m. Thursday, State Sergeant John Maase said the Uzzo family had been contacted right away. The body is considered "tentatively identified" as Uzzo until autopsy results make it official.
