When Westchester County resident *Lisa walked down the aisle to marry the love of her life at a synagogue in Long Island 23 years ago, she had the hopes and dreams that any bride would have on her wedding day. She was about to embark on a life full of happiness and joy, she thought. Little did she know that when, as part of Jewish tradition her husband broke the glass with his right foot during the marital ceremony, it was actually the start of her life breaking apart.
Lisa is a victim of domestic abuse and will tell her touching story during the Hope’s Door Annual Gala entitled “An Evening of Hope”. Her ex-husband verbally abused and threatened the lives of her and her two children. While she felt disparaged, demeaned and fearful of her family’s life, Hope’s Door provided her with a safety plan, counseling, legal service assistance, and opened the “door” to “hope” of a new life.
Also during the event, Woodlands Community Temple of Greenburgh will be honored for its long-time partnership with Hope’s Door. And, News 12 Westchester Anchor Scott McGee will be the Master of Ceremonies.
