Did you ever notice that people who enjoy life seem to look younger and more vital then someone who stresses over everything? Would you like to know the secret to living a more fulfilled life with more energy? Of course you do but it is no secret at all, in fact, I am sure that you do it everyday. At least I hope you do. The secret is to laugh. That’s right, just by laughing on a regular basis, you will receive benefits in your physical health, mental health along with your social health.
-
Physical Health: Laughing will decrease your stress hormones and increase your immune cells and natural anti-bodies that will help you stay healthy and keep sickness away. It also increases your blood flow which helps protect you against cardiac disease and heart issues. Laughing also releases endorphins which has been know as the body’s feel good chemicals. When the endorphins are released, it even has the power to give you a temporary relief of pain. All of this just from laughing.
-
Mental Health: First of all, laughing will give you joy and add zest to your. Who wouldn’t want that? It will ease anxiety and fear, relieve the stress that you my be dealing with and put you in a good mood. When you are in a good mood, you are more confident which will bring you greater results in your life. We could also say that laughing is a form of meditation. When you are laughing, nothing else in your world matters except what caused you to laugh. That is an escape from reality with intense focus on one thing; that is meditation.

Social Health: Laughing with another person whether you know them or not will create or strengthen any relationship. You are sharing in a common moment and in a positive way that creates a bond for you and the other person or even group of people. Being a Martial Artist, we teach our students that laughter is the best defense. If you are having an altercation with someone, laugh your way out of it and you will see how it will defuse any situation. (As long as you are not laughing at them)
Below are some things you could do on a daily basis to bring laughter into your life. Make it your goal to laugh more throughout the day. Not only to laugh, but to laugh uncontrollably at least once a day. Having the opportunity to work with the EMC team is one big laugh fest. We go buy the motto, work hard and play hard. We get a lot of work done in our day, but there is a constant hum of laughter as well. In turn, we get more accomplished because we are enjoying ourselves.

Smile. Smiling is the beginning of laughter. Like laughter, it’s contagious. Pioneers in “laugh therapy,” find it’s possible to laugh without even experiencing a funny event. The same holds for smiling. When you look at someone or see something even mildly pleasing, practice smiling.

Count your blessings. Literally make a list. The simple act of considering the good things in your life will distance you from negative thoughts that are a barrier to humor and laughter. When in a state of sadness, we have further to travel to get to humor and laughter.
When you hear laughter, move toward it. Sometimes humor and laughter are private, a shared joke among a small group, but usually not. More often, people are very happy to share something funny because it gives them an opportunity to laugh again and feed off the humor you find in it. When you hear laughter, seek it out and ask, “What’s funny?”
Spend time with fun, playful people. These are people who laugh easily–both at themselves and at life’s absurdities–and who routinely find the humor in everyday events. Their playful point of view and laughter are contagious.
Bring humor into conversations. Ask people, “What’s the funniest thing that happened to you today? This week? In your life?”
Enjoy life and laugh till you drop!
