Briarcliff Advised to Conserve Water After Break in Tarrytown

Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown are repairing a water main break at the Tarrytown Lakes.

Briarcliff Manor Village Manager Philip Zegarelli advised residents in his weekly update Friday to conserve water after a main break in Tarrytown.

"A section of 30 inch water main in Tarrytown feeding water to all three villages [Briarcliff Manor, Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow] burst last night," he wrote. "Previously, VBM had shut down its system in conjunction with a scheduled Catskill Aqueduct shutdown: we were able to isolate our system. However, while we have not witnessed any turbidity, I wanted to advise you that this event and the normal seasonal turnover, MAY cause a slight discoloration of water: with no adverse effects to its quality."

Regardless, Zegarelli said, "Conserve water!"

"Due to an ongoing problem with a water main break, the Village of Sleepy Hollow Water Dept. is requesting that you do not use any water unless it is absolutely necessary. We are working on this problem and hope to have full service back very soon. We will notify you again when restrictions are lifted and we apologize for this inconvenience."

According to Sleepy Hollow Police, workers are still trying to repair a water main break near the Tarrytown Lakes that happened overnight late last week. The water supply is running low.
