Briarcliff Celebrates Music In Our Schools Month
Fifth-graders visited Briarcliff High School to interact with musicians.
From the Briarcliff Manor School District:
Briarcliff High School’s band, chorus and orchestra impressed visiting Todd Elementary School fifth-graders during a special concert in March as part of Music In Our Schools month.
The three groups performed a number of classical and popular songs for their younger peers to give them an idea of the type of musicians they can become if they choose to pursue an instrument or choral instruction as they continue on to middle, and eventually, high school.

“Not only was it a delightful opportunity for the children to hear live music, this trip was a chance for the fifth-grade students to see and hear the progression of what they may sound like on their own instrument,” said Todd orchestra director Kate Stocker.
After the concert, fifth-grade students asked high school students and the band, chorus and orchestra directors questions about music in the higher grades.

Justin, a trumpet player, asked, “Do you need a private teacher?”
Band director Marc Tartell said not all students utilize private teachers, but the music department faculty is available to assist students in finding one if they desire.
Ben, who also plays the trumpet, asked the high school students if it’s easy to balance music and schoolwork.
The older students told Ben that having designated time during the day to devote to their music studies is helpful and they are always conscious of managing their time and schoolwork.
