Briarcliff ElderAct Raises Funds For Veterans

The Briarcliff ElderAct, of the Rotary Club of Briarcliff Manor based in Atria, raised over $1,000 from hand knit items for veterans

The ElderAct Club of Briarcliff Manor raised over $1,000 from hand knit items, made by ElderAct members. All money goes straight to the Heroes in Transition Organization, an organization that funds the needs for our veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Briarcliff ElderAct, sponsored in 2012 by the Rotary Club of Briarcliff Manor and based in Atria, comprises of senior citizens who cannot be members of Rotary Clubs for health, transportation or other reasons. The Briarcliff Manor ElderAct is one of the first ElderAct Clubs in the world.

The needs of seniors are different, as are their resources. ElderAct seeks to meet meet their needs and tap their resources. Senior citizens are a huge, untapped reservoir of intellect, experience, talent, and wisdom. That intellect, that experience, that talent, and that wisdom, are largely wasted for want of opportunity. ElderAct seeks to fill the gap, and provide our senior citizens the opportunity for fellowship and intellectual stimulation, for involvement in coordinated activities that could benefit seniors, juniors, and the community, and for forming national and international relationships.

ElderAct members hold their own meetings every week, where they regularly meet people committed to the same ideals and have fellowship of peers. They have speakers of interest whether local or international interest - providing for robust intellectual stimulation. They discuss and organize community service projects, and this sale of hand knit items to benefit veterans is typical.

The Briarcliff Rotary is proud of its ElderActors, and delighted to share this with the local community! Join Rotary, Light Up Lives!
