Briarcliff High School presents Chitty Chitty Bang March 1, 2 & 3
This multi-media extravaganza features a magical car, a loving family, and a zany cast of villains. All tickets $15 www.showtix4u.com.
The Briarcliff High School theater is abuzz with students rehearsing their roles, building a car and creating stage magic through models, video projection and sound effects for this original production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.A musical for all ages about the lovable Potts family and their wonderful and treacherous adventures to fairy-tale lands, the show is filled with classic songs like “Hushabye Mountain” and “Truly Scrumptious,” toe-tapping dance numbers like “Me ‘Ol Bamboo,” and a very special car. But it’s also brimming with technical wizardry that would delight Caractacus Potts, the whimsical inventor and single dad at the center of the story.
Like the inventors in the story, the cast and crew have been in overdrive creating ingenious ways to stage a traditional musical using multi-media and special effects. From small models to drone footage, the show engages the audience’s imagination in ways that Caractacus Potts couldn’t have envisioned in the early 1900’s when the story takes place. Senior Tucker Poux, who plays Potts, says, “Our goal in this show was not to make people wonder how did they do that, but how did they think of that?”
Designed as an immersive experience that will make audience members feel they are part of an inventor’s workshop, the story will unfold with a myriad of surprises along the way. Innovative, hilarious and action packed, this production promises to entertain the whole family.

The show’s director, Ian Driver, says, “I’ve always loved Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – it’s such a fun show. I thought the students would find it funny and they really do. I hear more laughter in these rehearsals than in other shows. It’s a zany romp, and I guarantee you’ll leave with a smile on your face.”
The focal point of Chitty Chitty Bang Bangmay be a flying car, but it’s the relationship between a single father with a big heart and his young, adoring children that grounds this magical story and makes it relatable to every parent, and every child who has ever had a dream.
