Briarcliff High School Students Learn About The Hollywood Industry

Briarcliff students looking to dip their feet in the entertainment industry got the inside scoop from a production supervisor for Disney.

Briarcliff students looking to dip their feet in the entertainment industry got the inside scoop from a production supervisor for Disney television who just happens to be a Briarcliff High School Graduate.

Students in Jamie Mandel’s “Introduction to Film” and “Future Filmmakers” classes had the chance to meet Charles Schulz, a 2008 graduate of Briarcliff High School. Mr. Schulz has worked on popular television shows such as “This is Us,” ”Modern Family,” “Only Murders in the Building,” and “American Horror Story.”

A graduate of SUNY Geneseo and Syracuse University, Mr. Schulz spoke in the Troy Lecture Hall and inspired students, while sharing information about the scope of jobs available in the film and television industry as well as the process of making films and television series.

“Mr. Schulz encouraged students to just “go for it” if they want to work in media,” Ms. Mandel said.

“It was great – he was so charismatic,” said film student and senior Ben Young.

Juniors Ryan Prechtl and Alex Southern agreed.

“It was very interesting to hear a management perspective from a higher-up in the television industry,” they said.

“Mr. Schulz is a natural teacher who guided the students through a plethora of employment opportunities in the industry. The number of jobs available is exciting for our students’ futures,” Ms. Mandel said.
