Briarcliff Middle School Future City Club Excels at Competition
The eighth-grade team was recognized by the New York City Department of Transportation.

Briarcliff Middle School’s Future City Club brought two teams to the New York Metropolitan Regional Final Competition on Jan. 17.
“The eighth-grade team, made up of Ben Harris, Max Hertz, Josh Ross, Nick Sama and Caleb Schumacher, won a special award sponsored by the NYC DOT for the Best Local Street System,” said Club Advisor Jodi Shearer.

Students in the club are able to pursue their interests in technology and engineering, as well as meet and compete against students with similar interests in the region.
This year’s competition focused on urban farming. Briarcliff Middle School’s award-winning city was called Goatlantis.

The Future City Competition is a national educational program for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students sponsored locally by the American Society of Civil Engineers Metropolitan Section.
