Ten Briarcliff Middle School students competed at the recent regional Mathcounts competition, which took place at Ardsley Middle School.

The students, who are part of the school’s Mathcounts Club, placed 6th out of the top ten schools in Westchester and Putnam counties.
Club advisor Sventlana Ryzhik said that the students enjoyed the experience. Topics covered included geometry, counting, probability, number theory and algebra.

Participants were: Julianna Wang (captain), Alex Lu, Matthew Masala, Aaron Zheng, Nicholas Li, Deenora Reiss-Reinitz, Eli Berzofsky, Erin Lin, Aarit Singh and Dylan Star.
Eighth grader Alex Lu was the top scorer, with 33 out of 46 points. Both eighth grader Nicholas Li and sixth grader Aaron Zheng received a score of 32.
“That is such wonderful news,” said Assistant Principal Kristen Bonnici. “I am so glad that our team had a strong performance.”
