Westchester is also seeing a lower garbage amount, with the residential trash volume within the county's refuse district—about 90 percent of Westchester residents live in it—went down for the fifth year in a row. The tons of garbage recorded for 2012 were at 376,890, versus a record of 540,217 for 2007, which means a decrease over the period of 30.2 percent.
