Briarcliff Schedules Budget Hearing For Thursday

A candidate has withdrawn from the school board race and petitions are again open.

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY — The school board and budget vote is coming up May 17, when Briarcliff school district voters will weigh in on a $56.28 million spending plan and two seats on the Board of Education.

There are two seats open on the school board as Kenneth Torosian's and Michelle Woerner's terms expire in June. They are running for re-election as a team.

Joanna Stein Weiner withdrew from the race, so the district clerk has reopened the process for candidates to get on the ballot following state law.

Petition forms may be picked up at the District Office on weekdays when school is in session, during regular business hours.

The $56,280,408 spending plan is 4.82 percent higher than the current budget. It will result in an estimated tax levy increase of 2.75 percent, which is under the state tax cap.

Among the budget highlights:

  • $650,000 to replace all of the necessary components for unit ventilators that condition and exchange the air in every classroom.
  • The High School and Middle School general instructional classrooms will have all furniture replaced with up-to-date, modern furnishing for students and staff due to a one-time influx of funds.

A public hearing on the budget will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the middle school theater.

Voting will take place between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. at Todd Elementary School, 45 Ingham Road.
