Celebrating Dad At The Market
Pleasantville Farmers Market is open Saturday, 8:30am - 1:00pm

Our farmers and food artisans have a lot to offer those celebrating Dad this weekend. And a visit to the Pleasantville Farmers Market with Dad will be lots of fun Saturday. Start by checking if any of the kitchen knives need to be sharpened as Harper Keehn Knife Sharpening is in for a final spring visit. Scholastic chess instructor Anatoly Tubman is visiting so that Dad and the kids can play chess in our Kids Event area (9:30-11:00). Enjoy some really cool music by Isra-Alien (10:00-12:00). Add a falafel or stir-fry for lunch, with a cold drink, and Dad is going to have problems leaving when it's time to go... Before heading out, collect his favorite Market items (fresh strawberries!) to take home for a delicious Father's Day weekend of special meals.

THIS SATURDAY:
BUY TWO -- DONATE ONE
This Saturday the Market will have its annual spring Hillside Donation Day. Highlighting the generous, weekly donations our farmers make to help eradicate food insecurity in Westchester (3000 pounds of fresh food so far this year), this event provides shoppers the opportunity to "buy an extra item of produce" so they can make donations of their own. Representatives will be on hand from the Pleasantville Community Garden (their volunteers collect vendor donations every week) and from Hillside Food Outreach (including Kathy Purdy, the Executive Director and Founder of this Pleasantville-based charity which provides meals for thousands of Westchester residents each year). This weekend please stop by and add your donation to this special cause.
Phelps Health Tip:
Eat Kohlrabi
Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: "Kohlrabi, along with other cruciferous vegetables such as kale and broccoli, contain compounds called glucosinolates which have been shown to reduce the growth of cancer cells. Kohlrabi contains phytochemicals that fight diabetes and high cholesterol. Nutritionally speaking, kohlrabi is a powerhouse: just one cup contains many valuable minerals and vitamins including 100% of your daily vitamin C needs".
Little Seed Gardens: Kohlrabi
This is a great time to be seeking kohlrabi out as Little Seed Gardens has plenty at this time of year. For recipes and other kohlrabi tips (yup, you can eat the tops) visit their blog by clicking here.
Using SNAP At The Market
The Pleasantville Farmers Market welcomes shoppers using SNAP EBT. To use SNAP benefits begin at the Manager's Tent, located at the north end of the marketplace.
