Thornwood Fire Sparked By Cigarette Tossed Into Trash: Report
The fire reportedly began around 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Franklin Avenue, near Graham Hills Park.

THORNWOOD, NY — A lit cigarette tossed into garbage outside a mixed-use building in Thornwood has been blamed for sparking a fire over the weekend, during which one person had to jump off a roof and over a barber shop to get to safety.
The building, located on the 800 block of Franklin Avenue, near the east side of Graham Hills Park, sustained damage from the flames around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, the Journal News reported.
Three firefighters suffered minor injuries and two residents were sent to a hospital. They're expected to be ok, hamlet Fire Chief Frank Kolodzinski III told the outlet.

Firefighters rescued a dog from a unit on the second floor of the two-story building, Kolodzinski said. The fire, which began outside the building and spread to the vinyl siding, appeared to be an accident.
The building has businesses on the ground floor and residences above them.
